In the DMV area, many artists site a drought of connection with community in the music making process. GoodBoyzMuzic, a collective of artists throughout the DMV, looked to answer that call with their project, Collab Cookups. Through word of mouth and video promo, Collab Cookups went from residential meetups to networking events in public spaces such as Selina's, a coworking environment that houses both hotel rooms and spaces for local communities. This documentary takes a look at GBM's October session which features producers, artists and songwriters from all over the DMV, including appearances from a few Memphis artists.
bQ highlights Black artists that detail current iterations of Black life that speak to our future and past. We capture artists through video interviews and long-form features. “The bQ Newsletter” is set to be released in Sept. 2022. A&E includes in-house digital content for our social platforms.
At bQ, we honor fashion as storytelling through fabric. Our segment Tell Me ‘Bout Your Fit captures the stylish livelihood of Black people within the diaspora.
We believe in centering the voice of Black journalists as well as trusted community leaders through a self-made directory affiliated with the National Association of Black Journalists, NBCBLK, theGrio and other local, community media entities. Findings will be released in a Saturday edition of The bQ. Newsletter called “Saturday Reads.” We will also produce a visual segment called bQTV, that captures news events with input from relevant subjects and experts.
Black educators are often the first external beacons of encouragement and leadership for Black children. bQ honors their dedication by highlighting their passion, commitment, and their tools to growing our next generations in our series ‘BlaQ Bookshelf.’
